✨ How to Make a Simple One Ribbon Loopy Bow (Beginner Friendly)

If you’ve ever looked at a beautiful full bow and thought, I could never make that…”

I promise—you absolutely can

Today we’re starting with one of my FAVORITES: 👉 the One Ribbon Loopy Bow

This bow is:

  • full
  • round
  • perfectly compact
  • and surprisingly EASY once you get the hang of it

It’s the kind of bow you can use on:

  • 🎁 packages
  • 📬 mailboxes
  • 🌿 garlands
  • 💐 wreaths (of course!)

Basically… it’s a little bow that goes a long way

🎀 What You’ll Need

Keep it simple—we’re not over complicating anything here:

  • 2.5” ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Wire (to secure your bow)

👉 Total ribbon needed: about 5 yards

✂️ Step 1: Cut Your Streamers

Start by cutting:

  •  One 16" ribbon for the tails we will add at the end.

Set this aside—we’ll use tit at the end for that finished look 👀

🎀 Step 2: Let’s Build the Bow (The Fun Part!)

Now we’re making the loops—and this is where the magic happens ✨

Bow Formula:

👉 9 loops total

  • 4 loops on one side
  • 5 loops on the other

👉 Each loop is 6" long

How to do it:

  • Start forming your loops, one at a time
  • Keep them roughly the same size (don’t stress if they are not exactly the same size.!)
  • Alternate sides as you go

👉 The Goal Is:
5 loops on one side and the other has 4…
that’s exactly what we want!

It actually helps give the bow that full, balanced look.

🔧 Step 3: Secure It

Once all your loops are formed:

  • Pinch everything tightly in the center
  • Wrap your wire around the middle
  • Twist it nice and snug

👉 This is what holds your whole bow together—so don’t be shy here!

✨ Step 4: Add Your Tails

Remember that piece we cut earlier?

Now we bring it all together:

  • Add your 18" piece to make the tails

These give your bow that finished, styled look 💁♀️

💫 Step 5: Fluff & Zhuzh

This is my favorite part…

👉 FLUFF. IT. UP.

  • Pull loops in different directions
  • Separate them so the bow looks full and round
  • Adjust until it feels “just right”
  • Pull two trials to the top and two tails to the bottom

There is no wrong way to zhuzh a bow 😉

🤍 The Finished Look

You now have a 12” wide, full, loopy bow that looks like you’ve been doing this forever.

And the best part?

👉 You did it with just one ribbon

💡 Pro Tip from Me to You

If your first bow isn’t perfect…

GOOD.

That means you’re learning.

Every bow gets better—and before you know it, you’ll be making them without even thinking about it.
