🏡 Why Your Front Door Deserves the Perfect Wreath
Your front door is the first thing people see when they walk up to your home — and let’s be honest, first impressions matter! A beautiful wreath says:
- “Hello! A stylish person lives here.”
- “Yes, I actually have my life (mostly) together.”
- “And no… this wreath did not come from a discount bin.”
Choosing the right wreath isn’t complicated, but there are a few tips that help you pick one that looks perfectly sized, beautifully styled, and totally intentional.
1. Choose the Right Size
📌 Most standard front doors are 36 inches wide — which means the perfect wreath size is:
⭐ 22"–30" finished size
This fills the door beautifully without looking tiny or overwhelming.
A good rule of thumb:
- 20–22” wreath → simple, minimal style
- 24–26” wreath → full, lush, “wow-factor”
- 28–30” wreath → oversized, dramatic, “Pinterest model home” look
👉 At The Wreath Room, most of my wreaths finish at 22"-30" inches, which is exactly why they pop so beautifully on standard doors. See our wreaths here!
2. Match Your Style (Not Someone Else’s)
Your wreath should feel like you. A few favorites:
🌿 Greenery Wreaths (Neutral + Timeless)
Perfect if you love classic, calming décor. Works year-round. See our selection of Greenery Wreaths here!
🌸 Spring Florals (Soft + Cheerful)
If you enjoy color without going “full Easter parade,” lightly floral spring wreaths are ideal. See our Spring Wreaths here!
🍂 Seasonal Pops (Fall, Holiday, Winter White)
Choose one showstopper for each season and rotate them — this keeps your door feeling fresh and festive.
3. Consider Your Door Color
Here’s an insider secret:
The wreath you love may look totally different depending on your door color.
Dark doors (black, navy, charcoal)
✔ Greenery and light florals pop beautifully
✔ Whites, creams, olives, eucalyptus are stunning
Light doors (white, beige, gray)
✔ Rich greens and deeper tones stand out
✔ Avoid pale greens — they can blend
Colorful doors (red, teal, sage)
✔ Choose neutral wreaths so the colors don’t fight
✔ Soft whites + greenery look high-end
4. Think About Year-Round vs. Seasonal
Do you want:
🌿 A wreath you leave up 12 months a year?
Go greenery, eucalyptus, olive, or neutral florals.
🎀 A seasonal rotation?
Pick one for each season:
- Spring
- Summer
- Fall
- Christmas/Winter
This keeps your home feeling refreshed without constant redecorating.
5. Quality Matters More Than You Think
Here’s the truth:
Not all faux florals are created equal.
Look for:
✔ High-quality faux greenery (not shiny plastic)
✔ Realistic stems with natural movement
✔ Full, layered designs
✔ Secure construction (we use high quality glue)
✔ A sturdy grapevine base
This is exactly why I hand-select every single stem I use — if it doesn’t look real, it doesn’t go on the wreath.
6. Add Personality (Your Door Should Smile Too!)
A wreath can express your personality:
- Soft and romantic 🌸
- Modern and clean 🌿
- Rustic farmhouse 🍃
- Moody and dramatic 🌑
- Bright and cheerful 🌺
Your front door is like a little hello to the world — let it show your style.
7. Stand Back and Check the Proportions
Once you hang your wreath:
👉 Step onto the sidewalk
👉 Look at the entire doorway
The wreath should feel:
- Centered
- Balanced
- Full
- Noticeable from the street
If it looks too small — you need something in the 24–26” range.
If it’s taking over like a jungle creature — scale down. 😉
🛟 How to Help Your Wreath Last Longer (Because She Deserves a Long, Happy Life!)
Once you’ve found the perfect wreath, let’s make sure she stays gorgeous season after season. Displaying your wreath on a covered porch provides light protection from the elements, helping it keep its vibrant look for months. If your wreath hangs in direct sunlight, give it a light mist of UV-protectant spray (available at most craft or hardware stores). This helps keep the colors rich and prevents fading—think of it as sunscreen for your wreath! And when it’s time to switch seasons, store your wreath in a cool, dry place inside a sturdy wreath storage box. A little TLC goes a long way—and your wreath will thank you every time you open the door.
